2007 was a big year for films based on comic books. Just to sheer quantity of movies this year was enough to make fanboys giggle. ‘07 definitely made up for the let down year of 2006. That year we saw the third X-Men movie and Superman Returns. Both movies were over hyped and hugely disappointing.

In it’s opening weekend, TMNT has won at the box office with an estimated $25.4 million. The movie only had a budget of $34 million so it is a safe bet that we can expect a “TMNT2.” One would wonder if they would shoot for a PG-13 rating for the sequel.
Since the weekend of February 16th there has only been one weekend that wasn’t ruled by a comics movie.
Ghost Rider was #1 for the weekends of Feb. 16th and 23rd.
300 was #1 for the weekends of Mar. 9th and 16th.
Now TMNT is #1 for the weekend of Mer. 23rd.
Likely TMNT will be bumped out of the number one spot next weekend when “Blades of Glory” opens.

There are some pretty mixed reviews on TMNT this weekend.
Really TMNT is what it is, and if you go into it expecting your life to be changed then you will be disapointed.
On a personal note, I took my 4 1/2 year old son to see it Friday afternoon.
I thought it was as “hardcore” as a PG movie could get. The action was great. The conflic between Leo and Raph was entertaining.
I loved the voice work. None of the celebrity voices were overwhelming, even Patrick Stewart’s.
I recommend this film to any Ninja Turtle fan young or old.
