Both casting choices give G.I. Joe some much needed acting cred. The Variety article also confirms that Marlon Wayans will be playing Ripcord.

Wow!! I have to admit that i’m impressed. I really like the image I get of Quaid in the film as Hawk. Not to mention Arnold Vosloo as Zartan. My instinctive reaction is that will work really well. Much needed acting cred’ is right. What do you think the level of realism will be in this flick? I mean given current events being what they are?

From what I understand the movie will be taking place in the “near” future. I think that is pretty smart as it would avoid current events like the WoT and US elections.
The Joe movie has already been the target of left vs right politics. The more the movie stays away from that the more I’ll like it.
This setting should also give some cool tech for the Joes to use.

That’s a good point about how it would be less interesting/fun with real world politics involved. Do you think it’s going to be a hard hitting military action flick or will it take itself a little less seriously?

Hasbro’s Brian Goldner is pretty enthusiastic about the movie and wants a Cobra vs G.I. Joe story like the Marvel comics. he’s even hinted at taking plots from the comics. That being said I guess we can expect the movie to feel like the comic.
Here is a link to the Goldner interview.
