Casting Call: Alpha Flight The Movie.
Friday, February 2nd, 2007 @ 5:27 pm

Alpha Flight is a Canadian Superhero team created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The team first appeared in the pages of Uncanny X-Men and was originally created as a back story for Wolverine. Issue #1 of Alpha Flight was published in 1983 and has come and gone as several different incarnations. Recently in the pages of New Avengers, the original line up of Alpha Flight had been killed. This caused an uproar by fans and in response Marvel has announced a new series named “Omega Flight.”
So now that Marvel produces it’s own movies and the demand is there to see more Alpha Flight, I thought it would be fun to cast the movie using Canadian actors.
Guardian/James MacDonald Hudson played by Michael Shanks
Guardian is Canada’s Captain America. James Hudson (Mac) is a scientist who created a powered exo-skeleton suit and is recruited by a secret branch of the Canadian Ministry of Defense known as Department H. Guardian is the leader of Alpha Flight. His suit give him the power of flight. He can also create a personal force field and can fire energy blasts.
Michael Shanks is perfect for this role. He is buff enough to make a believable superhero and as Dr. Daniel Jackson on “Stargate SG-1″ he has proven he can play a scientist.
Michael Shanks was born in Vancouver and grew up in Kamloops, BC, Canada. He is also a big sci-fi fan and I’m sure would love to have this role.
Aurora/Jeanne-Marie Beaubier played by Missy Peregrym
Aurora is a mutant with the ability of superhuman speed and durability, She can also fly and when she comes into contact with her twin brother they could create a blast of light.
The greater her speed is, the more durable her body becomes.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this character is that she has dissociative identity disorder. One personality is reserved while the other is uninhibited. Aurora was separated from her brother as a baby and was raised in a religious school in Quebec. She grew up to become a school teacher. Her other personality is very much the opposite of the girl who grew up in the religious school.
Montreal born Missy Peregrym is an excellent fit for Aurora. She is beautiful and has experience with the superhero genre. She has appeared on Smallville, Dark Angel and Andromeda. Her first lead role was in the movie “Stick It” where she proved she has the fitness level to be a convincing superhero.
Northstar/Jean-Paul Beaubier played by David Julian Hirsh
Northstar is Aurora’s twin brother and also shares the same abilities. What is really interesting about this character is that he is homosexual. In fact he is the first Marvel Superhero to “come out of the closet.” Aurora’s different personalities had different responses to Northstar coming out.
For Nothstar I have cast David Hirsh who was also born in Montreal. He has starred on Showcase’s Naked Josh and has had a reoccurring role on CSI:NY.
Shaman/Michael Twoyoungmen played by Gordon Tootoosis
Shaman is a member of the Tsuu Tina First Nation which is located near Calgary Alberta. He carries a medicine bag which contains a pocket dimension known as the Void. From the bag he can summon all manner of mystical objects and potions.
Gordon Tootoosis needs no introduction to Canadians. He was born in Poundmaker, Saskatchewan and is of Cree and Stoney descent. With out a doubt he can play a convincing Shaman. Tootoosis is a great actor and has been in the business for 34 years. In fact he has played a Shaman several times before.
Snowbird/Narya played by Crystle Lightning
Snowbird was born of an Inuit goddess and a human man. The goddess needed to create a champion to be on Earth. Shaman was summoned by the goddess to act s a midwife and bring the child into Earth.
Shaman was then chosen to take care of the child and he named her Narya. In Shaman’s care Narya grew at a rapid rate and it was soon revealed that she had supernatural powers. Snowbird can flay and she can shape shift into animals. She has blond hair and white eyes with no visible pupils.
Crystle Lightning is of Cree heritage and was born in Edmonton Alberta. She started her acting carrier in 1994 and has only been in only a handful of movies, such as American Pie Presents: Band Camp and Saving Jessica Lynch. For this role she would need to wear contact lenses and to change her hair color to look like Snowbird.
Sasquatch/Walter Langowski played by Chris Jericho
Dr. Walter Langkowski is a renowned physicist and also a former American football player for the Green Bay Packers. Langkowski bombarded himself with gamma radiation in an attempt to become like the Hulk. Instead he gained the ability to transform, at will, into a large orange haired creature that resembles a sasquatch . It turned out that the transformation wasn’t caused by the gamma rays but Langkowski’s experiment caused a doorway to open to another world and his body was invaded by mystical beast called Tanaraq.
Chris Jericho has the build and the look to pull off this character. Jericho is a a Canadian actor, radio host, rock musician and former WWE champion. Though he was born in New York he grew up in Winnipeg where his father was born. He then trained in Calgary at Stu Hart’s pro-wrestling camp.
Puck/Eugene Judd played by Jason “Wee Man” Acuña
Puck is perhaps the most loved character of Alpha Flight. He was born in 1914 in Saskatchewan and was originally a 7 foot man. He traveled the world as a soldier of fortune and was later hired to steal the Black Blade of Baghdad. The Blade was actually a prison for an ancient sorcerer and Judd accidentally freed him. Judd was able to retrap the sorcerer by sacrificing his own life force. The result of this was Judd shrinking down to nearly 3 feet and now has superhuman strength, agility, reflexes, and durability. His agility and superhuman strength even rival that of Spider-Man’s.
Okay I sold in casting Puck. Wee Man was born in Italy and raised in California. But this guy has been born on this Earth to play Puck. He has the height and his antics on Jack Ass show he has the agility and build to play Puck. Aside from Jack Ass, Wee Man has actually had quite a few acting roles

You are so correct about the cast especially Wee-Man as Puck, there is not another guy on the planet who is more cut out for the role.
