Frank Welker Will Not Play Megatron?
Thursday, February 1st, 2007 @ 7:41 am

Long ago it was announced that the original voice talent for Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, has been cast for the new Transformers movie.
Frank Welker who was the original voice of Megatron was asked on his website if he would be in the new movie.
His answer was that he has not been offered any roles.
I am not really sure what’s happening with the “Transformer” movie other than my talented friend Peter Cullen has been cast. Presently, I have not been offered any roles. They are doing a new series based on our old shows which neither Peter nor I were cast. I think Corey Burton is playing the new Megatron. He is a wonderful voice talent and a great guy, so it’s nice to be replaced by folks you like at any rate.

It would be interesting if they instead got Leonard Nimoy who replaced Welker in the animated Transformers movie as Galvatron. Or Perhaps they intend Megatron not to have an English voice at all and he will only speak in “Cybertronian.”

That sucks. I can’t believe they didn’t even bother to ask him. His voice instantly says Megatron. It going to be weird hearing somebody fake it.

I have no idea how this is going to be pulled off. Now he wont look or sound like Megatron…

It does seem odd that they saw the value of branding three Optimus but stopped at Megatron. Maybe they’ll ask Spock and have a litlle Galvetron action.

Yeah I don’t get it. The two characters that have to be done right are Prime and Megatron. These are the two constants in every Transformers story.
