This article contains no spoilers unless you think I can predict the future.

Nightcrawler is one of my favorite X-Men. However I don’t think he can carry a movie on his own, especially the “movie version of Nightcrawler.
They should make a “classic” Excalibur movie Starring Nightcrawler.
In the comics Excalibur was made up of Captain Britain, Phoenix (Rachel Summers), Kitty Pryde, Megan and Nightcrawler.

If it were me I’d make the movie version of the team have this Roster:

Nightcrawler/ Alan Cumming

Kitty Pryde/ Ellen Page

Colossus/ Daniel Cudmore

Rogue/ Anna Paquin

The movie will also feature the Brotherhood

Mystique/ Rebecca Romijn

Pyro/ Aaron Stanford

Blob. Blob will be played by an unknown actor.

Avalanch Avalanch would be played by an unknown actor.

This is how I would set up the movie. This isn’t a full script but maybe the first 30 minutes of the film.
No costumes.

The movie would take place around 5 years after the events in X3. Kitty Pryde, Colossus, and Rogue have all graduated from Xavier’s school. As somewhat reviled at the end of X3 the Mutant “cure” is not permenant. Many “cured” mutants have regained varying degrees of their original power.
Magneto is missing and still recovering his power. Mystique has gathered a “new” brotherhood.
Kitty Pryde and Colossus are on a train traveling through Germany. Because all Mutants are considered a danger (due to the events of X3) they can not reveal who they are. Airport security is so tight it is impossible for the two to take an airplane.
They are on their way to visit Moira MacTaggert at Muir Island, a small island off of the northern coast of Scotland.
The train stops at a station in Hamburg and Nightcrawler walks onto the train and sits with Kitty and Colossus. He is now traveling with them to meet Xavier who is staying with Moira.
Suddenly the train is in danger and needs to be stopped. Toad had placed a bomb on the rear of the train duyrring it’s stop in Hamburg. Mystique is appearing on TV demanding the release of mutant prisoners or the brotherhood will blow up the train as extra insurance they have also taken out the bridge in front of the train.

Colossus “steels up” while Nightcrawler quickly grabs him and teleports both of them
The train is moving fast and Colossus is dropped off in front of it and Nightcrawler barley able to grab onto the top of the train.
Meanwhile Kitty is inside the train directing everyone to the front car of the train. She runs to the back of the train and locates the bomb. She grabs the bomb and she phases it and herself out side of the train. Because of the momentum she had from the train she was able to somewhat “fly.” Quickly she drops the bomb causing it to go solid and it falls on the tracks while she is still moving forward.
Back at the front of the train Colossus is digging his feet into the tracks trying to stop the train. The train is quickly approaching the blown up ?mountain? Colossus while going strong is still unable to stop the train. The train slows down but begins hanging over the edge a bit. Colossus’s weight is pulling the train off the edge. He lets go and falls as Nightcrawler watches. Now even without Colossus’s weight it is still slowly moving off the track. Nightcrawler teleports into the train and tries to save a few people. Almost immediately the train shifts and starts to move back confusing Nightcrawler. At the front of the train Rouge is seen flying and pushing the train.
At the bottom of the gorge Colossus exits a crater as Rouge lands on the ground near him.
The movie moves ahead to a quiet time where Nightcrawler, Rogue, Kitty, and Colossus are in a hotel catching up on what has happened in the past 5 years. Nightcrawler tells his story of going back to the circus. He is much more of a stronger character than he was shown in X2. Rouge explains her new abilities only by explaining that she has permanently taken “someone’s” powers. Colossus and Kitty are shown to have a romantic relationship, but Rogue is still resentful of Kitty due to the events of X3.

Why not include Captain Britain and Megan?
I just felt that too much time would be needed to establish these characters and they may be too fantastic.
It will be odd having an Excalibur without Captain Britain, but I think it will just be too hard to sell this character (who was my favorite in childhood) to the movie going audience.
